Client focus and work diversity
Isler Northwest serves a wide variety of clients in many industries, primarily in the Portland metropolitan area. You’ll work closely with a range of individual and business clients. The better you know our clients, the more effectively you’ll be able to serve them and help them succeed. You won’t be boxed into a single tax, audit, or consulting focus. We want you to explore a variety of paths to develop your professional strengths, so you can experience all of these disciplines. Freedom to explore is one of the many distinctive advantages Isler offers that larger national or multi-national firms simply cannot match.

Access to partners and clients
Isler Northwest has a high partner to professional staff ratio. That means you’ll work closely with our partners and learn directly from them. You’ll enjoy responsibility earlier in your career and receive solid training unparalleled in firms our size.

Our partners are enthusiastic mentors, eager to provide feedback to help our professionals develop their skills and strengthen their decision-making capabilities. With our open door policy, you’ll get to know the partners as well as your colleagues. You’ll also work directly with clients, learning about their business and serving as an advisor to support their objectives. It’s a level of access you won’t find at the larger firms. We believe in sharing our greatest assets – our people – directly with our clients.

First-rate training
Given the constant changes in laws and regulations in this profession, you need a source of training that can keep you up-to-date. We combine extensive on-the-job, inside, and outside training designed to orient you to public accounting and help you develop a variety of skills. You’ll also receive a variety of assignments under different supervisors to maximize your on-the-job training experience.
New professionals are assigned an Isler mentor to provide them guidance during their first few months with the Firm. Each mentor helps introduce new colleagues to Firm culture and procedures.

Management opportunities
Be sure to ask how many people began as a staff accountant and then moved up into a management role. And how did they get there — through hard work, attention to details, meeting clients’ needs? Or was it through a set of connections that you may not have? If you want to participate in management, you have our encouragement every step of the way. We don’t put up roadblocks to your success. Your dedication will pay off in the form of advancement opportunities throughout your career.

Room for an outside life
We value your free time. Granted, this is not your basic 9-to-5 job. And some overtime is expected. However, if you like to hike, or golf, or see your family — you’d also like the time to do it. We think having a full life makes you a better accountant and a better person, so we keep overtime to a minimum. We encourage our professionals to develop their talents and potential while maintaining a good balance between career and family.

Personal time, personal responsibility, and personal success
We believe in empowering our professionals. You are encouraged to understand what it takes to productively contribute to the firm’s professional and financial goals. With these goals in mind, you have the opportunity to tailor your own personal time away from the firm to suit individual needs. We know you value your free time. We respect that, and choose to base your career advancement upon measurable criteria beyond how many nights and weekends you work. You are empowered to decide how you will use your time to appropriately balance personal needs with individual and team professional goals. This allows you to exercise personal judgment about your personal time, your personal responsibility, and your personal success.’

Compensation
Our base salary levels are competitive with regional accounting firms. Base salary and performance are reviewed annually, with increases based on skill development and accomplishments. We reward our professionals through a “pay for performance” bonus program which is paid at the end of each fiscal year. Bonuses are based on individual job performance. We also reward your client development efforts with a separate annually recurring bonus that grows in relation to the growth of clients you successfully introduce to the Firm.

Benefits
We provide you with group medical, vision, and dental insurance, group life, a 401(k) retirement and savings plan, plus a flexible spending plan, which allows you to pay for valuable medical, dependent care, mass transit, and parking with pre-tax dollars. There are also a number of employee sponsored programs including disability, intensive care, and cancer care.
License and membership fees

Isler Northwest pays the licensing fees for all certified professionals, as well as annual dues and registration fees for membership and regular meeting attendance for the AICPA, OSCPA, and other selected professional organizations.
