JOHN A. CHAMBERS, CPA

John A. Chambers served as the firm’s third Managing Partner from 1995 to 2007, concurrently serving the firm’s clients with his expertise as an advisor in tax and business planning. An Oregon native, John joined the firm in 1971 and has been a partner since 1978.  In addition to his continuing professional focus in tax advisory and business planning services, John continues as a member of the firm’s management team and leverages his leadership skills in furthering client business development opportunities.  John is also a nationally recognized leader in the area of practice continuation planning and advisor to accounting firms throughout North America. His experience in practice continuation planning has resulted in several articles on the topic of Standby® Agreements appearing in national publications including The Practical Accountant and The Practicing CPA.  He is also a well-known speaker and a writer for many of Oregon's business publications. Some of these have included: "How to Survive an Audit," a feature story in The Oregonian; "You Can Remain Locally-Owned," Oregon Business Magazine; and "Standby® Agreements," Daily Journal of Commerce. John has also appeared as a featured business Newsmaker on local television programs and as a special guest on KATU Channel 2's Town Hall.  John is married with five children and has held leadership positions in a variety of professional, civic, and church organizations including the Doernbecher Children's Hospital Foundation’s Capital Campaign Committee and the National Coalition for the Protection of Children and Families. He presently serves as an active Director of The Commerce Bank of Oregon, a Portland-based subsidiary of Zions Bancorporation, and also as an active founding Director of the Kids Working Wonders Foundation. The Foundation is dedicated to helping develop young leaders in the nation's schools to engage and direct community resources that enhance the quality of health care in local area children's hospitals. These efforts provide students transformative, life-changing community service experiences through which they encourage and give hope to the critically-ill kids they serve. He is also an avid musician, hiker, kayak paddler, backpacker, snowboarder, and alpine climber.
